A police officer may stop a driver if they believe them to be driving faster than the speed limit. A Fixed Penalty Notice will be given to you – it allows you to accept the allegation by paying a £60 fine and adding three penalty points to your driving licence. You can also reject the Fixed Penalty Notice and defend the allegation in the Magistrates’ Court.
If you dispute the facts contained within the Fixed Penalty Notice then you may want to challenge the offence in court. 24-7LAW offers several services that may help you. We can guide you on your potential options, assist you in managing your response and even refer you to a solicitor, if you so wish. The provisional fixed penalty notice should tell you which police station you need to present your documents to. It is usually the police station nearest to the location where the alleged offence occurred.
